Cast

The named people the systems refer to. Racer personalities are defined in Relationships; each crew's storyline is in Crew storylines.

The Spaids

Jake Spaid — the protagonist. Not from Nitroit: he arrived at nineteen by coach, from a state he does not name, with a bag and no intention of explaining himself. Karted from seven, won from nine, quit at fourteen, and has not been timed by anybody official since. Drives constantly. He starts the game quiet — he was never much of a talker — and opens up as he gets to know people (Jake's voice). Full history in Backstory.

Grace Spaid — his mother. Married to a professional driver for twenty years and never once at the circuit on a race weekend, which nobody in the family ever asked her about. Raised Jake alone for five years after the accident and was the only person in his life who did not tell him what to do with his talent. Died of cancer when he was nineteen. She has no photographs in the game and no recorded voice; what the player knows of her comes from Jake refusing to discuss her.

John Spaid — his father. Professional GT3 driver: customer teams, sponsor liveries, endurance grids — a career as somebody else's hired driver, and good enough at it to lead the LMGT3 class of the FIA World Endurance Championship into its final round. Died on the last lap of that race, in the lead (Backstory). Appears in the game only in photographs, in an old motorsport magazine on a stand in the festival paddock, and in one recorded interview Jake finds and does not finish watching.

John's co-drivers — the two former teammates who spent five years telling Jake he should be racing. They shared John's car in that final race and lost the same trophy with him. They do not appear in the game.

Crew leaders

Each leads their crew at the start of the game, is the final challenge for that district, and is that crew's Invitational contact. Crews are described in Street scene.

Adrian Wolff is the most naturally talented driver in Nitroit after Jake. Mateo Castellanos took over Riverside when his older sister Junie stopped racing to run the family shop.

A leader keeps their Invitational and their place as a recruitable driver whoever leads the crew later (Who leads a crew).

The unaffiliated

Two drivers who belong to no crew, hold no territory, and issue the two hardest Invitationals in the game. Both are recruitable, and both carry a festival discipline despite having no culture to inherit it from.

NamePersonalityDisciplineWho they are
Nadia FerranteCompetitorGripRaced professionally, briefly, years ago, and will not say what happened. The only person in the city who knows what the festival is actually like.
Cass WellerSpikeDriftHas never joined anything. Beats crew leaders in cars that should not be capable of it and gives no explanation.

Shops and mechanics

One shop per district. A mechanic's festival role is defined in Mechanics. Mechanic personalities live in dialogue only and touch no number.

Families

Family names recur on purpose. Nitroit is a city of inherited trades and the scene is old, so every crew that supplies the festival is tied by family to its district's shop:

FamilyCrew leaderMechanic
WardDelia (Dockline)Curtis, her brother, in the shop their grandfather opened
FerreiraTomás (The Old Guard)Inês

NovakDara (Ringrunners)Petra

CastellanosMateo (Riverside)Junie, his older sister

Family members' Standing is linked (Family ties). A player who works with Curtis Ward for three acts and then takes Delia's car in an Invitational pays for it in both places.
