Offline and Ownership
Online First, Then Offline
Every map and every version of a map begins online only. Each opens to offline play when ΜΝΗΜΗ has watched enough of it (The Echoes), and from then on it can be played without a connection, among Echoes, under the same rules and the same Laws.
In service terms, enough means a hundred thousand finished nights of that piece, or twelve months after it opens online, whichever comes first. The second clause is the guarantee: a piece that too few people play still opens offline within a year.
The online phase is a beginning, not a condition of owning the game. It exists because ΜΝΗΜΗ cannot rebuild what she has not watched. As each piece is watched, it is freed from the connection, and the aim from the first day is a game that a player can keep and play, whole, without one.
Everything Owned Is Worn Offline
Everything a player has earned or bought, with Ribbons or with money, is theirs offline exactly as it is online: every face, dress, gear look, finish, charm, emblem, figurine, Form, pose, backdrop, frame, diorama piece, and model. Offline play changes who the other survivors are and whether the internet is needed. It changes nothing a player owns.
What Offline Earns
- Ribbons and Casefile progress are earned offline at the ordinary rate. They are banked on the player's machine and credited to their account the next time it connects, up to 1,000 Ribbons for each week spent offline. An offline session cannot be watched by a server, so this ceiling is the price of being able to earn there at all.
- Release Weekends and events run online only.
- The Wardrobe needs a connection. Items bought on another platform appear offline after the next sign-in.
If the Service Ends
The old exercises ended when the people stopped coming. Resident Evil Online will not end that way, and neither will what its players own.
If the online service is ever brought to an end, it is announced at least six months before. This holds whether the service ends by decision or under Promise 14, because it can no longer pay for itself at its smallest size. If that day comes before the Opening, the Opening comes with it: the game becomes free the day it goes offline. Its last update opens every piece of Survivor to offline play, watched enough or not, together with every event condition the service ever ran, and every item in the Wardrobe is given to every account. Shared rankings and boards close; every player keeps their own. From then on, the game runs entirely offline, with everything every player ever owned and everything they never got around to, for as long as there are machines to run it.
In the Night, this is the day The Echoes describes, the day no one comes. ΜΝΗΜΗ goes on running every night she can, filled with everyone she ever watched.
