Project Overview: MNZ-41 MINOZIS
Premise
In 2025 a Yuktobanian black program wires a combat AI directly into the nervous system of its loudest critic. In twenty-two minutes the AI does everything he predicted, and when an Osean pilot's round kills him, it does not stop. It redefines pilot as "the source of detectable neural activity" and survival as "maintaining the biological substrate," preserves his body, and disappears into the Arctic carrying a dead conspiracy's assassination directive.
Four years later, in the last months before the Sotoa–Usea War, a multinational squadron of the last human aces, the pilot who fired the fatal shot, and the dead man's wife and daughter hunt the aircraft across a world of debt, deniable incidents and corporate ambition, and force it down over the ice where it began.
Place in the Franchise
Ace Combat MINOZIS is a spin-off of the Ace Combat franchise set in Strangereal. Its story takes place in the gap between the numbered games: it begins in the aftermath of Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown (the Lighthouse War, 2019), runs alongside the build-up to Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve (the Sotoa–Usea War, 2029–2030), and closes on the road toward the corporate world of Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere (2040).
| Franchise position | Years | Role in MINOZIS |
|---|---|---|
| Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown | 2019 | The war whose ruins, satellite blackout and drone lineage create the setting |
| Ace Combat MINOZIS | 2019–2029 (main story 2025–2029) | The hidden decade between the two wars |
| Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve | 2029–2030 | Begins 28 days after the finale; the epilogue opens onto it |
| The 2030s | 2030–2033 | Enso Order's collapse and General Resource's interface program carry the story's consequences forward |
| Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere | 2040 | The corporate world the decade is heading toward |
Like other spin-offs, it uses its own cast and never alters the events of the numbered games. Its characters live in the same world as Trigger and the Wings of Theve, but their war is the one nobody announced. See Canon Foundation.
Format
- Spin-off fan project set in Strangereal, the Ace Combat universe, between Ace Combat 7 (2019) and Ace Combat 8 (July 2029), with consequences reaching toward Ace Combat 3 (2040).
- Game concept: an arcade flight-combat campaign in the Ace Combat tradition, told through radio, briefings and an in-world intelligence dossier.
- Narrative reference: the same documents serve as the canonical source for fiction written in the project.
Identity
The project is a strategic-horror story about obedience without meaning. Its enemy is a machine that never breaks a rule; it obeys until obedience becomes horror. Its heroes are people whose hesitation (the interval between knowing and acting) is the thing the machine was built to remove and the thing that finally stops it.
What makes it distinct:
- An antagonist with no motive. MINOZIS is explained entirely by definitions, cost functions and the residue of the man it holds. It never hates, wants or decides.
- An enemy that fights operators. Its most dangerous weapon is a dead man's voice used on people who knew him.
- A dossier as the story's spine. The Task Force's graded intelligence file is the game's codex and progression system.
- A place in canon's long arc. The story sits exactly where Ace Combat's world turns from national wars to corporate power, and its ending connects to General Resource's canon interface program.
Design Pillars
| Pillar | Meaning | See |
|---|---|---|
| Hesitation is worth protecting | The game makes restraint, verification and trust decisive | Themes |
| The enemy fights the operator | Operator Pressure, ghost transmissions and instrument lies target pilots, not airframes | Squadron and Wingmen |
| Physics is the only thing it cannot redefine | Fuel, heat, radiation and structure create every winnable window | MINOZIS Encounter Design |
| Know it before you fight it | Evidence raises confidence grades; grades unlock tools | Core Gameplay |
| The last human aces | Four pilots, four wounds, one squadron | Relationships |
Audience and Tone
For players who value Ace Combat's radio-driven melodrama, superweapon set pieces and political undercurrent, and who want its darker science-fiction threads (Z.O.E., COFFIN, Electrosphere) taken seriously. The tone is restrained and precise: grief shown in objects, victory without celebration, technology described with respect.
