Launch Scope
These documents describe more game than launches. This page says which parts are the launch, which arrive later and when, and which may never be built. It is written in the Service's register. Nothing in it changes a rule of the Night: it only says when each rule first applies.
The order comes from Seasons and New Content (The Order of Arrival) and The Business Case (Building It). Where the two documents give a date or a condition, this page repeats it and does not change it.
The Launch
Survivor in the Raccoon City of September 1998, rebuilt whole. Everything a night in that city needs is the launch, and nothing else is.
| System | Where it is defined | Launch notes |
|---|---|---|
| The Night and the Service, ΜΝΗΜΗ, Pithos, the sleepers, the Remembered | Project Overview, ΜΝΗΜΗ, Pithos, The Sleepers and the Remembered | Whole. The Growth is in the lore from the first day; its first anomalies are not (Year Two, below) |
| The Sealed File | The Sealed File | Written in full before launch. Revealed by the seasons, in its own order |
| The session, waking points, the Reserve, the Seats, the Clock | The Session | Whole |
| The director: Laws, Pulse, stillness, planning, leavers, her bodies, visions, asking her, leads, a file's first nights | ΜΝΗΜΗ as Director | Whole |
| Infection, the Mark, Resonance, antivirals, Down | The Infection | Whole. The anomalous strains wait for the anomalies |
| Elpis, the road, the paced Reserve, the Last Trial, the drop, the scar | Elpis in the Night | Whole |
| The six strains, Petitions, pure strains, the Embrace | The Strains | Whole |
| The Turn, the four shapes, who plays on, Hunts, the Second Night, the Lost | The Turned | Whole |
| Extraction, the six ways out, the three improvised ways, the Climb, the End of the Night, the Last Scene | The Extraction | The Raccoon City rows only |
| The edge of the world and the Crossing | The Worlds | Raccoon City's three rings |
| The four days: the hours, the moon, the pace, the weather track | The Worlds | Raccoon City, 1998 |
| The dead, threat levels, containment, B.O.W. events | The Dead and the Engineered | Whole. Anomalies wait |
| Survival: health, hunger and thirst, Self-Examination, inventory, worn gear, stashes, scarcity, safe rooms and Wardens, vehicles, fighting, the Heavy | Survival | Whole. Crafting waits for the Ruins |
| Destruction | Destruction | Whole, with Raccoon City's breaches and collapse sites |
| Objectives, restrictions, puzzles, vaults, secret weapons, events | Objectives, Restrictions, and Events | The Raccoon City weapons. The Unknown Event waits for the anomalies |
| The living, voice, betrayal, dilemmas | The Living, Dilemmas | Whole |
| Survivors, creation, Hardening | The Survivors | Whole |
| Squads made in the night, the Squad Sign, parties, companions, the Stranded, ties | Survivor | Raccoon City's roster and ties |
| The story night of 1998, live scenes, Moments, As Recorded | Story Nights and the People of the Records, The People of Raccoon City, 1998 | Whole. If the first gate prices the story night above its line, the launch ships Late Wakings in its place (The Business Case) |
| Echoes, offline play, queue fill | The Echoes, Offline and Ownership | Online first. Raccoon City opens offline when watched enough, or within a year |
| The After-Action Report and the Ledger | The After-Action Report | Whole |
| The First Run, the Promises, Conduct, the economy and Exposure, cosmetics, the Dossier, the diorama, seasons and Casefiles | The Service, The Economy, Cosmetics and the Dossier, Seasons and New Content | Whole. The Wardrobe opens with what Raccoon City, 1998, can wear, and Dossier pieces; looks of the Ruins and the Valley, the BSAA among them, are sold when their world arrives (Cosmetics and the Dossier, Each Thing to Its Time). Hallowed Night needs a map whose calendar allows it, so it waits for the Ruins |
| Presentation and technology | Presentation and Technology | Whole for Raccoon City |
Year Two
Arrives during the First Run's second year.
| What | Where it is defined | What it switches on |
|---|---|---|
| The Ruins of 2026, the hardcore map | The Worlds, The People of the Ruins, 2026 | Crafting, ARK Falls, the Ruins' ways out and improvised ways, the Ruins' weapons, the queue choice between the classic rotation and the Ruins |
| Crosstime Weekends | Story Nights and the People of the Records, Seasons and New Content | Needs a second time in the game |
| The anomalies and their strains | The Dead and the Engineered, The Infection | The Unknown Event becomes possible |
| Hallowed Night | Seasons and New Content | Its Ruins half. Its Valley half waits for the Valley |
After the Opening, If It Sells
| What | Condition | Where it is defined |
|---|---|---|
| The Valley of 2004, its story night, the Plaga, pesetas and the Merchant | Built only if the First Run sells more than six million copies in its first year (The Business Case, Running It) | The Worlds, The People of the Valley, 2004, What ΜΝΗΜΗ Leaves Out |
Variants and Fallbacks
| What | Status | Where it is defined |
|---|---|---|
| Late Wakings | A variant held for later development, and the launch's fallback if the story night is too costly | Story Nights and the People of the Records |
Possible Future Development
Not scheduled. Each is built only if it can be paid for without taking anything from Survivor (Future Development).
| What | Where it is defined |
|---|---|
| Outbreak, Versus, Mercenaries, Recollections and Endless | Future Development and each mode's own document |
| The Refuge | The Refuge, last of all |
The Scope Rule
The launch is proved before anything is added to it.
- No new system joins the launch until the launch's own numbers have been tested: the night simulated against its Reserve, Seats, and Clock.
- A change to a launch system is a correction, not an addition: it fixes a contradiction, a number that proved wrong, or a gap a writer had to fill.
- Everything later stays later. A system listed after the launch is not pulled forward to solve a launch problem. The launch's problems are solved with the launch's own rules.
